[0:00 - 0:28] Hello Ladies and Gentlemen, I do apologize for that. I do apologize for that mishap, yeah.
[0:28 - 0:42] Technical difficulties because certain people find it funny to mess with my internet, but
[0:42 - 0:50] that's okay. Now as I was saying, I'm going to show you guys what some of these new up
[0:50 - 1:00] and going pro drivers train on. The very same people that you guys watch on TV that
[1:00 - 1:21] are racing and competing, the very, very same. Now,
[1:21 - 1:45] let's get started, shall we? Oh, hello guys, good to see you, Jimmy here. And I'm back
[1:45 - 1:50] in Munich. Second time here in about three months, which is pretty fun. Now you might
[1:50 - 1:54] recognize this place. We've been here before we're back at the BMW motorsport center for
[1:54 - 1:59] something that is really very cool, I think. Now, last time I was here, we went for a little
[1:59 - 2:04] tour on the factory here and we got a bit of a look at the super expensive, super high
[2:04 - 2:11] end driver training simulator. I asked, yo, can I have a go? And they said no. But we
[2:11 - 2:16] came back, we came back with a better strategy, a nice lower cup top and asked again. And
[2:16 - 2:21] I said, yes. So we're here today to have a go on that simulator. Now this is a good and
[2:21 - 2:25] a bad thing. It's good because I get to have a go on a simulator worth more than probably
[2:25 - 2:31] the entire village I live in. And also bad because I'm going to have my driving assessed
[2:31 - 2:34] by proper racing drivers and race engineers. We're going to try and end the video as best
[2:34 - 2:48] I can to make me look good. But it's going to be a bit of a challenge, I think. I don't
[2:48 - 2:49] know why I'm going first. I don't know where I'm going. So last time we were here, I couldn't
[2:49 - 2:54] notice something way about the sim room. It's just an unassuming door. There's nothing
[2:54 - 3:01] to say big, cool sim inside it. It's literally just this, this man. Right, so we're in the
[3:01 - 3:06] simulator room and I'm joined by Rudy who said he has a very long title, but basically
[3:06 - 3:11] he helps to build race cars here at BMW. Rudy, we're in a sim room. Tell me as much as you
[3:11 - 3:15] can about this without getting in trouble. First of all, welcome in Munich. First of
[3:15 - 3:22] all, in the R&D facilities of BMW, right behind us is the chassis of the simulator.
[3:22 - 3:25] And the simulator is very essential for us first of all to develop race cars, but then
[3:25 - 3:31] also to involve drivers and what's most important as well. And what we use mostly these days
[3:31 - 3:35] is prepare race events. So in terms of software, you know, I've got a couple of different
[3:35 - 3:39] sims at home I race on. What's this on? Is it some sort of custom thing or can I go and
[3:39 - 3:43] get it at home myself? Well, I think this is, this is the one thing that we're also
[3:43 - 3:48] a little bit proud of. It's a lot of, a lot of it is built-in house. So the entire modeling
[3:48 - 3:53] of the car, the physics behind what's, how the car is represented is totally done in
[3:53 - 3:58] house and bespoke. There's a lot of computation power in that rack over there. What we use
[3:58 - 4:02] for visualization just, you know, get the graphics in. It's an off-the-shelf solution
[4:02 - 4:07] from our factor probe. Like I said, what's really important is what the driver perceives
[4:07 - 4:12] and what he feels and... No, no, this is not me. I'm going to ask the question that is
[4:12 - 4:19] very rude to ask. If I wanted to buy one of these, how much will I be looking at? Well,
[4:19 - 4:28] you could probably swap it for your house. All right. I'll go get it. Well, no pressure.
[4:28 - 4:33] I'm trying to break it. Okay, so we're sitting down now in the control center. I mean sitting
[4:33 - 4:37] down because I'm old and my legs hurt. But I'm joined by Shelton Van Lender, the first
[4:37 - 4:41] ever South African DTM driver. Good to meet you mate. Good to meet you mate. Good to meet
[4:41 - 4:46] you mate. Joining us today. He's going to be doing some sim stuff in a minute and going
[4:46 - 4:50] out and setting a time that I'm not going to beat basically. Hopefully not. Otherwise
[4:50 - 4:54] you've got my drive for the show. You didn't see that. I get to drive his car. I'm going
[4:54 - 4:59] to play it by beast later on. So of course, very impressive simulator here, Shelton. I
[4:59 - 5:03] guess the simple question is how close is it? Because you've got that whole chassis
[5:03 - 5:06] there. Yeah. You're pretty much sitting in the car. Does it feel like you're in a car
[5:06 - 5:10] when you're driving it? Yeah, 100%. I mean, like you've seen already, it's basically
[5:10 - 5:16] the full carbon monocoque. So it's basically the real car. And then we have all the hardware
[5:16 - 5:21] as it is in the ETM car. So you've got everything at your fingertips. The software's developed
[5:21 - 5:27] to a really good level. So yeah, you've basically, it's amazing to drive, you know, like yesterday
[5:27 - 5:31] we were doing some prep for the test already. And you can really go through some run plans
[5:31 - 5:36] and really do setup changes as well, which really benefits you on the racetrack as well.
[5:36 - 5:39] It basically saves you a lot of time in here because you don't have to spend it at the
[5:39 - 5:42] racetrack. It was pretty interesting to hear that because a lot of people will say, "Oh
[5:42 - 5:47] yeah, I'm pretty hot in my game at home. I'll be pretty hot in the circuit as well." But
[5:47 - 5:50] it's kind of interesting to hear that development there. I also heard Rudy was saying that this
[5:50 - 5:55] thing changes all the time. It's always kind of better. Does that disturb you at all or
[5:55 - 6:00] do you think it's just better improvements? No, I think development's very important on
[6:00 - 6:04] this front because obviously the car's developing itself, the real life car. So you kind of
[6:04 - 6:11] need to keep up with those steps. And then... Logo, the chase after gun symbol. As this
[6:11 - 6:17] video begins, a young man... Just the hard way as well. I think every week they've got
[6:17 - 6:21] something new which always feels better and better. So we're always on the right track
[6:21 - 6:25] and sometimes I'm doing some development as well. Well, be able to go set up time for
[6:25 - 6:54] us now. See how it does and I'm going to do my best to try and beat you later on.
[6:54 - 7:14] Hello! I like a bit. Six out of ten, I think. What's that? Six out of ten? Yeah, please
[7:14 - 7:18] improve them. So you're feeling like a bit sweaty after that? A bit kind of like... Yeah,
[7:18 - 7:22] it does exhaust you a bit. It does exhaust you a bit because obviously you've got movements
[7:22 - 7:28] and stuff but the biggest thing is just the heat inside. If you don't run the fans there,
[7:28 - 7:32] it gets really hot. Not that I'm wearing my sports jeans. Yeah, man, you're going to
[7:32 - 7:42] be excellent in there. You're going to be cooking like a sauna in there. So, yeah. Look
[7:42 - 7:52] at that. Oh, bloody hell. Oh, that's tight. I think I feel like a tiny bit closer, but
[7:52 - 7:58] otherwise that's not a problem. We can do that. And you can also put on the steering
[7:58 - 8:05] wheel if you want to. I'll tell you what, I get used to this. Let's look at this. The
[8:05 - 8:13] lap and the steering wheel, this is a steering ruler. Yeah. Okay, it needs to get used to
[8:13 - 8:20] being low because it's like that. Yeah, we need to be able to hit some foam. You hear
[8:20 - 8:27] that click? No, because you're going to get the mic nice and close. That's shifting in
[8:27 - 8:34] 4K, that is. Then you're going to embarrass me now, Steve. All right, okay. Chubby man
[8:34 - 8:43] tries to get out of the simulator. Oh, Jesus. I'm an old man. So, basically my arse is too
[8:43 - 8:48] big, which we all know anyway. I just felt a bit of a puddle, so that's okay. But we
[8:48 - 8:57] need to have a phone book and a little bit more. I've got a lot of junk in the trunk.
[8:57 - 9:06] Oh, hello. Oh, you can talk back. Ready to take? Yep, hello. Okay, good. All right, so
[9:06 - 9:12] my town in the rig now, I've had some rig, rig simulator, this massive simulator. I've
[9:12 - 9:17] had some tips from Sheldon as to what I need to be doing. We have DRS up here, Bishop Pass
[9:17 - 9:21] here, and Brave Bias, not that we could be knob here. This is quite intimidating, because
[9:21 - 9:27] this is exactly how it is in real life. So, for all intents and purposes, I am sitting
[9:27 - 9:32] now and I have real life DTM cards, so the big screen in front of me. But quite low
[9:32 - 9:37] in this thing, I've had a bit of a load, because I'm short, to see how the wind's
[9:37 - 9:43] going properly. But I'm looking forward to it. In terms of time to beat, I think Sheldon
[9:43 - 9:48] did a high 29, but he said if I can do a 30, that would be an achievement. Especially
[9:48 - 9:53] if it's not my first time doing this as well. If I can get a 30, I'd be very happy. And
[9:53 - 9:58] then press the neutral button on the steering wheel, which is on the left hand side, the
[9:58 - 10:05] lowest button, and shift up all at the same time. There you go. Yeah, here we go. Ready?
[10:05 - 10:30] You're good to go? Yes, sir. Let's go. See you right there. This sound real gross fucking
[10:30 - 10:48] shit. Oh my word, this is immersive sound, at least. Try to drive while I break the tone
[10:48 - 11:13] of the car. [music]
[11:13 - 11:34] It's a lot of traction, though. In a second gear, you can really plant it and it'll go.
[11:34 - 11:42] I'll tell you what, I'm going to get a bit of sleigh, though. You can see how that, just
[11:42 - 11:47] like, helps to measure it. We're having a little day full up here. Actually going to
[11:47 - 11:54] a round here, so. Oh, it's going to be... Oh, it's going to be at a 31/8. Now.
[11:54 - 12:20] [music]
[12:20 - 12:49] [silence]
[12:49 - 12:59] [music]
[12:59 - 15:17] [silence]
[15:17 - 15:23] Oh, it's disaster for Baptiste Beauvoir, all the way down to the back of the field now.
[15:23 - 15:28] And he has it all to do. And this is double points. This is the worst possible outcome
[15:28 - 15:33] for that one for Baptiste. Four seconds off the back of the grid now. But meanwhile,
[15:33 - 15:37] at the front, Andrew Brooks is a rocket star, of course, on that soft compound of time.
[15:37 - 15:42] He's now coming down the hill towards the heavy breakings and right-handed him here.
[15:42 - 15:47] Mirzona in the inside, wants to try and get by. It's now side-by-side coming up to chicane.
[15:47 - 15:52] It's very, very much one at a time for him. Brooks gets up to the glass. Mirzona up into fourth place.
[15:52 - 15:55] Moisop though still keeping third for now on that medium compound.
[15:55 - 16:00] And he'll be trying to do his best to keep that position and hold up the soft runners for as long as possible.
[16:00 - 16:03] Trying to run through the chicane there as they run out to the ball.
[16:03 - 16:07] She sorts a few of them, just running in a little bit, 10 pass, as they come in towards the final corner.
[16:07 - 16:09] So Brooks is on the soft tyre, as is Mirzona in front.
[16:09 - 16:12] It's as though Moisop is going to be on the back of her tip.
[16:12 - 16:15] Yeah, so I need to make my point any more clear.
[16:15 - 16:19] It's getting slower than those drivers behind in the open sector this race.
[16:19 - 16:34] Now, do I need to make my point any more clear that when it comes down to actual sim racing,
[16:34 - 16:44] it is actually a sport like, come on, you guys just witnessed a couple minutes of it on legitimate Olympics, bro.
[16:44 - 16:58] And I did sleep a little bit, man, not much, but I did sleep a little bit.
[17:00 - 17:19] Now, for those that want to question my skill with NF1 car, let's go here, race setup.
[17:19 - 17:23] Let's go A, just to make it easy.
[17:24 - 17:33] Let's go circuit race.
[17:33 - 17:41] And since this is the first race coming up here in a couple of days, I may as well work with this one.
[17:50 - 17:55] Even though we're not racing our form cars, it's still something to do.
[17:55 - 18:02] Now, let's go to the upgrade store.
[18:02 - 18:18] Let's see, where's it at?
[18:19 - 18:32] It's right here.
[18:32 - 18:34] And it's right here.
[18:34 - 18:50] It's right here.
[18:50 - 19:02] Make sure everything is set up properly.
[19:15 - 50:43] Alright, now I'll just switch over to my driver gear.
[50:44 - 50:54] Alright, now I'm definitely not a fan of that tune.
[50:54 - 54:45] So, let's do my favorite tune that I can actually destroy with.
[54:45 - 54:46] So, let's do my favorite tune.
[54:46 - 57:14] So, let's do my favorite tune that I can actually destroy with.
[57:14 - 57:18] "Wonder and Spirit"
[57:18 - 57:23] Well, I'll just try doing this for yourselves, man.
[57:23 - 57:52] Oh, he's trying to use a Pro Sim. A Pro Sim will see me for you anyway.
[57:52 - 63:03] So, let's do my favorite tune that I can actually destroy with.
[63:03 - 63:28] Alright, we're going to try to be safe.
[63:28 - 63:50] Oh yeah, top 10 tunes now, let's go.
[63:50 - 64:01] That should bring me up to speed.
[64:01 - 64:16] Oh yeah.
[64:16 - 64:20] So, I gotta say, man, all y'all trolls, let's see y'all do this shit.
[64:20 - 64:29] Alright, you guys talk in big game, but I don't think you can back it up.
[64:29 - 64:34] Hell, you guys can even beat me in a fucking straight line drag race.
[64:34 - 64:59] I smoked every one of you motherfuckers.
[64:59 - 65:09] Fuck original, but only E-brake, but I never had a problem.
[65:09 - 65:13] It's not an E-brake, it's a parking brake, no shit.
[65:13 - 65:16] It's not my E-brake, it's not my E-brake, it's not my E-brake.
[65:16 - 65:22] No, I'm just messing with you, man.
[65:22 - 65:24] I went to school for automotive, man.
[65:24 - 65:28] They're like, it's not an engine, it's not a boater, it's an engine.
[65:28 - 65:35] Now, there is another thing that you're kind of messing up off with.
[65:35 - 65:40] Because you hit the brake chain transactions, like when you guys slide,
[65:40 - 65:44] did you hit the E-brake or just the brake?
[65:44 - 65:46] The E-brake.
[65:46 - 65:48] I hit both, I hit both.
[65:48 - 65:50] Oh, okay.
[65:50 - 65:52] No, I just used the E-brake, I don't use the E-brake.
[65:52 - 65:57] No, think about it, when you hit both at the same time, you're sliding and controlling it.
[65:57 - 65:59] And then you hit, yes.
[65:59 - 66:01] I hit both at the same time.
[66:01 - 66:02] Yeah, yeah.
[66:02 - 66:10] I used to have a playstation 3, and I had a controller.
[66:10 - 66:17] I had a controller, it was for whatever game, it was for like, not fours, but the other game.
[66:17 - 66:19] Gran Turismo.
[66:19 - 66:24] Gran Turismo, and it had a gas pedal on the controller, it had a gas pedal and a brake.
[66:24 - 66:30] And all kinds of buttons, it wasn't a regular controller, but it looked like a regular controller,
[66:30 - 66:38] but it had all of them, but it had different, it had like RPMs on it, miles per hour, percentages, all kinds of stuff.
[66:38 - 66:57] I can tell you, a lot of people call me dog grip, but Ashley is disciples of gaming, and I'm in the gaming community,
[66:57 - 67:03] I get most of my games for free, like football, basketball, call of duties, I get all of them for free, they pay for it.
[67:03 - 67:19] Shit, you guys, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not.
[67:19 - 67:31] If you guys are more welcome to join them, they'll hook you up, I mean, there's always prize, grass, free money, you ain't gotta change the game or anything.
[67:31 - 67:32] It's called what?
[67:32 - 67:39] Yeah, you gotta listen to, it might be hiccups, she might have to do a speech or something.
[67:39 - 67:41] Excuse me, stupid.
[67:41 - 68:02] Hey y'all, don't be scared of that.
[68:02 - 68:07] Oh, you're on my case, I'm on my phone, man. You guys have some shitty dollar store in your hand, man.
[68:07 - 68:16] No, I'm for real, I ain't never met nobody like that.
[68:16 - 68:19] Hello, what car are you bringing out?
[68:19 - 68:20] Me?
[68:20 - 68:22] Nah, the father.
[68:22 - 68:24] That's what I was thinking.
[68:24 - 68:28] Nah, the next one, I think it's half mine, what are you going to bring out?
[68:28 - 68:34] Oh, I don't know, I'm trying to figure this out, I see what car I'm paying for.
[68:34 - 68:37] Let me see what car, because y'all dudes are telling me that's Dom.
[68:37 - 68:40] I'm here trying to roll me a blunt at the same time, bro.
[68:40 - 68:43] Oh, damn, they're telling me it's Dom while I'm driving over.
[68:43 - 68:46] It says, it says low issue, it says networking.
[68:46 - 68:48] Network issue, low bandwidth.
[68:48 - 68:51] Yeah, it's doing that for me.
[68:51 - 68:52] Right.
[68:52 - 68:57] Either that or the Wi-Fi, or, I can't change the price.
[68:57 - 69:03] Could be, or, my next boy, my boy that works for Microsoft, tell me,
[69:03 - 69:06] anytime you're in a room and they start ditching out and stuff like that,
[69:06 - 69:12] the person who came into the room either has a, what you call a poor Wi-Fi signal,
[69:12 - 69:14] or they have a hack.
[69:14 - 69:17] That's why he freezes out the gate like that.
[69:17 - 69:21] You know what, I have a computer that, I have two computers that are on in there,
[69:21 - 69:25] they're the four computers, that might be why.
[69:25 - 69:27] Yeah, two computers.
[69:27 - 69:33] No, computers, I got two computers.
[69:33 - 69:37] Computers are like for work, and they're off.
[69:37 - 69:42] I think the windows are off, or the towers are on.
[69:42 - 69:46] All right, bro, I want to have to do it, bro.
[69:46 - 69:48] I want to have to do it.
[69:48 - 69:50] I want to bring it out the other end of the six.
[69:50 - 69:51] Some time it is.
[69:51 - 69:53] Yeah, I got some time to turn it off.
[69:53 - 69:55] Yeah, that's for me.
[69:55 - 69:59] I want to bust out one out of six, but mine's in, this is all over the ground,
[69:59 - 70:00] so I got to move in.
[70:00 - 70:03] In 906, that's it.
[70:03 - 70:04] Oh, this is a different one.
[70:04 - 70:05] This is my other buddy.
[70:05 - 70:07] See, this is the one I first started off on.
[70:07 - 70:12] All you do is just hold a throttle and train.
[70:12 - 70:19] Well, I wouldn't do it if I went and got another six from here and did some shit.
[70:19 - 70:22] Hey, you said how long do you work a day?
[70:22 - 70:23] Yeah, sure.
[70:23 - 70:25] No, we're not three to four hours.
[70:25 - 70:26] I'm three to four hours.
[70:26 - 70:29] There's only so much you can do on top of me, and I think you can walk back over here
[70:29 - 70:31] from what I do later.
[70:31 - 70:35] Can you tell me where the floor is first?
[70:35 - 70:38] I'd like to -- to, uh, to, uh --
[70:38 - 70:40] [
[70:40 - 70:41] static ]
[70:41 - 70:58] [ static ]
[70:58 - 71:00] Damn, I had a good-ass number on that one.
[71:00 - 71:02] Shut up.
[71:02 - 71:05] It ain't my record, but it was a good-ass number.
[71:05 - 71:08] Whew.
[71:08 - 71:11] Man, these new controllers are coming in handy.
[71:11 - 71:13] Look at that. Take 'em back.
[71:13 - 71:16] All right, dawg, I got you.
[71:16 - 71:36] [ static ]
[71:36 - 71:40] Whew, let's go.
[71:40 - 71:42] I want to take a rush into the swash.
[71:42 - 71:46] He's still -- he don't really care. He's just rolling in the club right now.
[71:46 - 71:50] He tried to do his medication again.
[71:50 - 71:54] Did he leave? Did he lie to love?
[71:54 - 71:58] I think he did leave.
[71:58 - 72:32] [ static ]
[72:32 - 72:34] Do you hear me?
[72:34 - 72:40] [ static ]
