[0:38 - 0:55] the Shadow Blade name. Now, let's get to work, shall we? Yo spabs, what's good homie? You

[1:31 - 1:50] let's watch this little video on what BMI is. Turn up so ya'll can hear it. Welcome
[1:50 - 1:56] to BMI's registration tutorial. In this video, we'll look at the basic process for registering
[1:56 - 2:04] works online at BMI.com. Step one, head to BMI.com and log into your online services
[2:04 - 2:30] now, let's go, what is BMI? Let's go here. What is BMI music? Let's see. Okay, now let's
[2:30 - 2:51] go. I'm going to walk you through the entire form as I register. No, no, no. Are you an
[2:51 - 2:57] independent artist looking to connect with your biggest fans and make more money? No,
[2:57 - 3:02] no, no. Listen up, because Zoom offers these tools and more. With Zoom, it's easy for an
[3:02 - 3:08] artist to connect with their fans. You don't have to pay thousands of dollars. Did you
[3:08 - 3:13] know that years ago, jazz, blues, country, Latin R&B were routinely shut for being played
[3:13 - 3:18] on the radio due to there only being one PRO in America and they were turning away
[3:18 - 3:23] musicians from this genre. If you want to know what PRO was turning away musicians
[3:23 - 3:28] and the true differences between BMI and ASCAP from someone who actually worked at BMI, then
[3:28 - 3:33] keep on watching. Now I am Taniya Coates. I formerly worked for one of the biggest companies
[3:33 - 3:37] in the music business, BMI. I have helped thousands of musicians with their royalties
[3:37 - 3:40] from the smallest of the smallest, making pennies of dollars, to the biggest, to the
[3:40 - 3:45] biggest, making millions. So I truly know the ins and outs of the royalty game and
[3:45 - 3:50] with my series, Music Money Mondays, I would help you to step up your royalty game. So
[3:50 - 3:54] for the best music business advice from someone who actually worked in the industry, subscribe
[3:54 - 3:58] to my channel and hit the little bell notification so you can be notified when I post a new
[3:58 - 4:04] video every Music Money Monday. You don't want to miss it, nope. Now in today's video,
[4:04 - 4:08] I am going to be telling you the benefits and differences between BMI and ASCAP, some
[4:08 - 4:11] that no one else will tell you. I will also be giving you a little bit of history of
[4:11 - 4:15] the companies and if you stay tuned till the end of the video, you will be getting
[4:15 - 4:21] my free demo sheet to let you know what to do if you are unhappy with your PRO. So let's
[4:21 - 4:27] get into it. Now if you are a music maker, a songwriter, a producer, you must be signed
[4:27 - 4:34] up to a PRO if you want to be able to earn royalties for your music. Now PROs are just
[4:34 - 4:39] performing rights organizations who are the only people who are able to collect the royalties
[4:39 - 4:46] for you when your music is played on TV, radio, at a concert, at a restaurant, on YouTube,
[4:46 - 4:51] on Spotify and Pandora. They are the only people who can get your royalties for you.
[4:51 - 4:57] Now in America, the two biggest and top PROs are ASCAP and BMI but they are actually the
[4:57 - 5:02] biggest in the world so it doesn't matter where you are from, any country in the world
[5:02 - 5:07] you can join BMI or ASCAP. Now the question is which one should you join or if you are
[5:07 - 5:13] already a member of a PRO, is that one truly the best one for you? Well, I'm about to give
[5:13 - 5:17] you the benefits and the differences. Okay, so one of the biggest differences with BMI
[5:17 - 5:23] and ASCAP is with the sign up fee. So when you sign up to join with ASCAP, they're going
[5:23 - 5:28] to charge you a $50 fee to sign up as a writer or they're going to charge you a $50 fee
[5:28 - 5:34] to sign up as a publisher. Now with BMI, they're going to charge you nothing, zero dollars,
[5:34 - 5:38] to join as a writer and if you want to join as a publisher, then they're going to charge
[5:38 - 5:47] you $150 to $250, $150 is if your publishing company is individually owned and $250 is
[5:47 - 5:53] if your company is owned by a partnership, LLC, corporation. Now you do not have to
[5:53 - 5:56] have a publishing company, you can sign up just as a writer and still be able to collect
[5:56 - 6:24] your publishing share through the writer account. Now, now that we have that. Here we go, it
[6:24 - 6:40] does BMI copyright your music. Your composition is copyrighted automatically when the work
[6:40 - 6:47] is created, which the law defines being fixed in a copyright and a copy or recording for
[6:47 - 6:54] the first time. The register of your copyright is recommended but not required. Granted,
[6:54 - 7:01] they do not copyright it for you, but there is a loop right here. Your composition is
[7:01 - 7:18] copyrighted automatically when the work is created. Now, let's go back to BMI. Works
[7:18 - 7:38] registration. That one's already registered, we're good with that. Ah, here we go, works
[7:38 - 7:46] catalog. Here's all my catalogs of the names that I fucking own. Cyrax, Cyrax official,
[7:46 - 7:53] Cyrax, Shadow Blade, War Studios, and War Studios, LLC, which is my personal fucking
[7:53 - 8:09] art studio. Now, let's go here to Shadow Blade. Work title, Shadow Blade, BMI, work number,
[8:09 - 8:23] LLC, date registered, 8/13 or no, yeah, 8/13/2020, songwriter/composer, myself, publisher, manuscript.
[8:23 - 8:53] So, yeah, try again, skull bitch. Try again, skull kid. Here's the thing, skull
[8:53 - 9:00] kid, what you don't realize is when you create the work, your shit is automatically copywritten.
[9:00 - 9:09] That is an automatic deal, my dude, which means one thing, you lose, bitch, because
[9:09 - 9:13] the minute I created the Shadow Blade name and started writing music under that name,
[9:13 - 9:22] that name automatically falls under my fucking name. So, yeah, try again, bitch. It ain't
[9:22 - 9:30] about whether you buy it or not. It's about the ownership, bitch. And I am the one true
[9:30 - 9:57] sole owner, fuck boy. Yo, ASFAS, put in the comments if that's you, dog. Yo. Yeah, I don't
[9:57 - 10:05] trust that. So, try again, skull kid. And just like with publishing, dude, one thing
[10:05 - 10:13] they don't tell you with publishing a book, the minute that you start writing the book,
[10:13 - 10:17] your shit's automatically published under your name. You automatically own that shit.
[10:17 - 10:24] The same with writing music. So, the minute that I started writing music under my original
[10:24 - 10:31] Shadow Blade name, guess what? All of that shit that I wrote and recorded under my Shadow
[10:31 - 10:38] Blade name are all of my alternative names. Guess what? I own every single one of them.
[10:38 - 10:47] I own the name. I own the rights to it, motherfucker. So, try again, bitch, boy. You want a name?
[10:47 - 10:54] Get your own fucking name and keep minding out your motherfucking mouth, you little fucking
[10:54 - 10:55] bitch.
